Yashi has been blessed with a devoted family. Her parents, Nathaniel Brown and Rebbie Jackson Brown are headed towards their golden wedding anniversary. Her brother, Austin, and sister Stacy are musicians in their own right. Yashi also sang background on Rebbie’s album, “Yours Faithfully” and was introduced on the big screen at the tender age of 5 in her mother’s hit song and music video, “Centipede”.
For a brief time Yashi and her sister Stacy were signed to their Uncle Michael Jackson’s MJJ recording label under Sony Music. Later, they dissolved their band, but continued as writing partners. Yashi is a passionate advocate in the mental health community currently working with her mother, Rebbie, and Reese Butler, founder of the Kristin Brooks Foundation, who is also partnered with PostSecret.com.
Yashi also has current projects in the works with the New York based Breaking the Silence adolescent program endorsed by NAMI. She also holds a board position with Long Beach based private school institution, TSJA, which stands for True Social Justice Academy targeting the high school drop-out crisis. Currently working on her own documentary which chronicles her challenges with mental illness and those in the medical field, Yashi demonstrates how her support system of family, music and poetry are the keys to her success.
